Derby Wedding Photographers Butterworth Photography capture Carole and Chris wedding at Makeney Hall.
It was just in the early days of Butterworth Photography that I found a new colleague and friend in Jackie Thompson before which was quite some time before Caroline and Chris wedding at Makeney Hall. Until recently Jackie has been designing and creating the most beautiful wedding dresses and corsets for brides, now she’s turned most of her beautiful sewing hands to bring us Hopsack Designs, a variety of accessories and corsets made from adorable fabrics. So last year I was delighted when Jackie’s daughter and fiance Chris chose us as their Derby wedding photographers.
The wedding took place on the weekend of the Jubilee celebrations, so it was to be hit and miss as to what weather we’d be dealt with for their day. It all came good and it stayed nice and dry with just a quick shower whilst everyone was at the bar, so that was no worry!
I was very much excited to see the girls dresses as the bridal gown and bridesmaids dresses had all been made by Jackie. I knew that they would be gorgeous and they were … extra lovely! Caroline and Chris had exclusive use of all of Makeney and its rooms, it was great that everyone you came across was either staff or a guest and people we’re popping in and out of each other’s rooms while babies and bridesmaids slept.
Once Caroline was ready we all crept downstairs to meet the registrars and dad, I think we were all expecting tears from, Caroline, Jackie or dad (John). There were a few tears but as we turned the greatest show of emotion was coming from sister Charlotte, she was weeping great big tears … well I’m sure so won’t mind me describing it as a full on blub. This bought the whole room to a giggle before Caroline gave her legal consent and the other required details to the registrars.
As I tend to like to, I got front row spot for John and Caroline coming down the aisle, I’m a big softie, I wholeheartedly believe in the wonders of marriage so I always feel lots of emotion when I shoot a wedding. As I’ve gotten to know Caroline and Chris it struck a bigger cord for me and more than anything I was filled with joy to see Jackie, how proud she was looking and I felt a little twang of extra emotion as I saw her take in John giving Caroline away. So through what was maybe a little teary eye I captured the ceremony which included a few tweaked poems, adapted to suit the new happy couple.
After the ceremony we were able to spill out on to the lush lawn outside the conservatory, the children were able to freely run while the adults sipped a celebration drink or two. After the group photographs I took a wander through the grounds with the new Mr & Mrs Weeks, exploring the now mature flowered gardens, giving Caroline and Chris some precious time to take the day’s events in and me time to capture some of our signature images.
We then all enjoyed a fabulous dinner, I was lucky to have been placed at a table with what I now call my ‘groupie’ AKA Jane who’s now unbeknown been a guest at three of my weddings. So third time lucky I was in fact sat next to her for dinner. Thank you Jane and crew for making me very welcome, it was a pleasure to dine with you! …. see you at the net one.
The speeches were emotional, I always say it, and I mean it. John spoke beautifully of his precious daughter and so did Chris of his new wife. I also got to know a little more about the two of them, getting to hear about their passions for travel, which was reflected in their wedding cake, created by the very talented Jo of Cakey Wakey. (The inclusion of a cheeky monkey Charlotte on the back had also been thought of, she took it in her stride and was later to seek some light-hearted revenge).
After the speeches Caroline and Chris were encouraged outside where we were ready for them with confetti and a surprise car (by I Do Weddings Cars) booked by mum and dad to whisk them for a mid summers afternoon drive around the local villages.
On their return everyone was enjoying themselves, wonderfully relaxed and taking in a very special day together. It was later time to cut the cake and dance the evening away.
Caroline and Chris, thank you, It was a true pleasure to be a part of your wedding day. I felt the emotion, the fun and also the real sense of relaxation. A brilliant wedding recipe!
