We photographed the delightful Derbyshire wedding of Jon & Emma on the 12 August at Donington Park Farmhouse Hotel. This fabulous seventeenth century farmhouse with is breathtaking views across Breedon Hill and surrounding Derbyshire countryside was the perfect venue for Jon and Emma’s wedding day.
It was a wedding day that included a couple of anxious worries the week leading up to the day, with Emma’s twin brother’s faced with some obstacles at work. One of the twin’s who works in the police force was faced with leave being cancelled in the week of the series of London riots and then at short notice the other was to at short notice take part in an international rugby game the day before the wedding in France! Thankfully with the riots calming and with two early morning flights on the day of the wedding they both could be there to see their sister marry and for their readings during the ceremony.
Leading up to the wedding day Emma’s best friend had been amazing in ensuring that all the girls received the best beauty and hair care at her salon in Beeston. So on the day I met the girls here as they started the morning bridal preparations, which included a table of Buck’s Fizz, Doughnuts and pastries! It was a big career and friend moment for Emma, being the maid of honour at her best friends wedding and styling her hair, along with the other bridesmaids, through the deep concentration she did a fabulous job and armed herself with hairspray cans for later if required!
We then went back to Emma’s parents where dad’s quiet bubble was totally popped (with relief I think!) as 7 ladies return home to dress, brush teeth and apply make up. Cars then arrived for the drive to Donington and were beautified with balloons and ribbons.
We all then came together at Donington Park Farmhouse Hotel, where Jon and the guys had been waiting eagerly for guests and the bridal party to arrive. The ceremony was to be made even more so special as a great family friend who is a Nottingham registrar (and someone we’ve enjoyed working with quite a few times now) took lead on the ceremony for them. Joined by two Derbyshire registrars Malcolm added personal touches to the ceremony and it appeared to be a special moment for him too!
The great thing about the Farmhouse is there is great space for everyone to enjoy whatever the weather, it’s various brick buildings and beams created a location for me that was warm and inviting on the inside and bright, spacious and surrounded by Derbyshire countryside on the outside. After time outside it was in to the pig sties for dinner … far more glamorous than that sounds! Here the speeches bought a few tears and lots of smiles before dinner and to finish the cake was cut and everyone then headed out to the early evening sunshine and bar.
The big barn was a magnificent space for the evening reception, and with the live band and candle light it was a brilliant place for dancing. Before the first dance Emma and Jon were presented with a ‘Honeymoon Survival Kit’ inclusive of suncream, mossi spray and a few other quirky gifts!! After a few dances we said our farewells and the party was really getting started!
Emma and Jon, what a wonderful wedding day, everyone was so lovely to be around, your family and friends all so happy and proud, we’ve loved being a part of your wedding journey. Best wishes for the future, we’re sure it holds great happiness and love for you both. Neil & Becky x
We’d like to say a special thank you to the staff at Donington Park Farmhouse for being very welcoming and making us feel a part of their team on the day. (Neil said the Hog Roast was very yummy too!)
