Peter & Jo – owners of Award winning Dennisson Classic Cars
Tell us a little about yourself and your company?
We’re Peter and Jo Beardmore, we’ve been happily married for nearly 25 years and are the very proud owners of Dennisson Classic Cars, the 2012 Regional and National winner of The Wedding Industry Awards for Best Wedding Transport Provider. We provide our beautiful Classic Jaguar MK2’s and Daimler V8’s for weddings across the East Midlands and enjoy being a part of our happy couples special day.
What made you start your business & how long ago?
Dennisson Classic Cars was born in October 2005. After many years of working in larger organisations we felt it was now the time to create a business of our own. Peter had always had a real passion for Classic Cars having worked as an Engineer in the automotive industry. Jo had had various roles working directly with members of the public and has used these skills together with Peter’s extensive knowledge of Classic cars to establish our business providing chauffeur driven wedding cars.
What services does your business offer?
We tailor our wedding packages to customer requirements, whether it be a full church service or a civil ceremony at a single venue location. We work very closely with the client from initial enquiry to their special day. Every wedding is totally different which makes us feel so passionate and excited about our role. For each wedding our Classic Cars are dressed in ribbons, and for full church ceremonies we provide a chilled half bottle of Moet and Chandon champagne and present the cork to the Bride and Groom in a personalised bag as a good luck symbol and memento.
What words best describe you?
Approachable, Friendly, Warm, Calm, Professional, Perfectionists but with a sense of humour!
People say we are a good team!
What words best describe your company?
Professional and personable. Passionate about their Classic Cars. Helpful and friendly service.
What’s your favourite/classic package?
We work very closely with the client from initial enquiry to their special day. Our Church package is probably our favourite because it gives us more opportunity to be involved with the whole family from chauffeuring to the church and then providing the champagne journey for the Bride and Groom to the wedding reception venue.
What’s going to be popular for 2012 / 2013?
Classic Jaguar MK2’s and Daimler V8’s continue to be in demand especially with the current interest for Vintage Chic.
What inspires your designs?
We are passionate about our Classic cars and they are lovingly cherished which is evident in their appearance. We take pride in the service we can provide and genuinely feel privileged to be part of a couple’s wedding day.
What’s your favourite part of your job?
The opportunity to meet couples and show them our Classic Cars, talk through their wedding day plans and then the icing on the cake is to be part of their wedding day. On the actual wedding day we can usually calm any fears, cope with unforeseen emotional drama’s and then see the happy married couple relaxed drinking their chilled champagne on route to their wedding reception venue. We also really enjoy to network with other professionals in the wedding industry.
One of the real highlights of our career with Dennisson Cars has been winning not only the Regional Award for the Best Wedding Transport Provider in the 2012 Wedding Industry Awards, but being announced the National winners at the awards ceremony in London at the end of January. It was a fabulous moment to realise that our couple’s feedback and votes had heavily contributed to us achieving it.
What’s the hardest part of your job?
Working in the rain and adverse weather conditions, but we do try to cover every eventuality with our large ivory unbrella’sand ground carpet for the Bride to step on to when she gets out of the car to save her dress getting dirty. Another difficulty for us is when other people delay proceedings making it difficult to get the Bride to church on time.
On average per year how many weddings are you commissioned for?
On average we provide our Classic cars for a minimum of 100 weddings per year , but in 2012 our bookings for this time last year are considerably higher so we shall top this number for 2012
How far in advance should clients book you to avoid disappointment or recommend placing an order/booking?
For the spring and summer months clients need to be booking at least 12 months in advance if not longer to secure the Classic Car of choice.
What has been the most unusual request you’ve had?
Jo – Whilst Chauffeuring a Bride and Bridal Party to the wedding at Thrumpton Church in our Classic Blue Daimler V8 (Charlotte) she encountered an unplanned street carnival in Sneinton which blocked the end of the road. Jo had to leap out of the Daimler and put her previous experience at a Police Woman in to practice stopping the parade and traffic so the wedding car and photographer could get out of the end of the street – thankfully they did stop and the Bride arrived at Church on time!
Peter – Had to take Mother of the Bride back to the hair dressers on route to and pre church marriage ceremony because she could not attach her fascinator. Mother refused to get out of the wedding car so Peter had to try and find said hairdresser who was having her lunch. Obviously all this drama made the Bride (who was unbelievably calm) 30 minutes late for her wedding ceremony. Some Mothers who would have em!
How do you relax after a busy day?
A nice meal together with a glass of wine or two and some nice music.
Do you have any exciting projects coming up?
More film shoots. The continuing restoration of a Classic Jaguar MK2 plus further expansion – watch this space!
